Walks and rides in the Pas-de-Calais

The oceanic climate of Pas-de-Calais is mild and wet near the coast and cooler inland.
Whether you go on foot or by bike, simply enjoying the beautiful landscapes is a pleasure in itself. Understanding how the holes are formed, how the migratory birds behave, will enhance your visit!

You won’t always be able to see the animals. Most mammals and birds don’t like the afternoon heat, nor crowds of walkers. So if you want to observe the wildlife, you’ll have to be quiet and patient.

Don’t miss
the cloister garden, the rue Guyale garden and the Japanese garden at the Town Hall.

LE PORTEL
10 866 inhabitants

The seaside resort of Le Portel, nestling right at the heart of the Côte d'Opale and sheltered by the harbour of Boulogne port and the Cap d'Alprech, has flower displays that are a delight. The Falaise park is the largest bird observation area in a coastal urban setting, consisting of 27 hectares of bushes, dune vegetation, springs, artificial pond and grassy areas in a migration corridor, and is one of the town’s best points. The others include the public park, which is brought alive each year by its original floral creations, “Ansel" square (a little shady park with rivers of Busy Lizzies) and Fort d'Alprech (an historic site, recently renovated and landscaped).

MARQUISE
 4 624 inhabitants

Visitors are attracted to this pleasant town in the middle of the 2 Caps area of the Boulonnais by its dazzling floral displays and the quality of its environment, where heritage is everything. For example, the recently renovated Château Mollack, has become the capital of good quality exhibitions, and the gardens are a haven of greenery right in the heart of the town. The flowers are stunning and the urban furniture is perfectly adapted to the style of the town: it’s just waiting to be discovered!

OUTREAU
 15 442 inhabitants

To have a good life here is one of the main objectives of the OUTREAU town council! The many parks and open spaces constitute an attractive, quality environment. But clichés apart, OUTREAU is a town that has managed to convince the panel of judges by the wealth of its floral displays and by the level of participation of the inhabitants. The quality of its landscaping, its respect for the environment and its cleanliness bear witness to the wish of the council to create a pleasant setting for its visitors as well as for its residents. The 17 hectare Mont Soleil park is a pleasure for one and all, with its open spaces, its lake and – especially in June – the hundreds of kites that colour the sky!

SAINT-MARTIN BOULOGNE
11 487 inhabitants
For several years, ST-MARTIN-BOULOGNE, a town on the outskirts of BOULOGNE-SUR-MER, has definitely become more and more original in its floral displays, notably on the large roundabouts on the entrances to the town, which won it the coveted national « Football World Cup » award for towns in bloom.

For the visitor:
The roundabout is used as a window on the main events in Boulogne area, changing with the seasons, using the metal structures made by the council’s landscaping department: the roundabout with a themed garden, for example a superb traditional Japanese garden, a water garden, a natural garden, etc.
