Walks and rides in the Pas-de-Calais

The oceanic climate of Pas-de-Calais is mild and wet near the coast and cooler inland.
Whether you go on foot or by bike, simply enjoying the beautiful landscapes is a pleasure in itself. Understanding how the holes are formed, how the migratory birds behave, will enhance your visit!

You won’t always be able to see the animals. Most mammals and birds don’t like the afternoon heat, nor crowds of walkers. So if you want to observe the wildlife, you’ll have to be quiet and patient.

NATURE WALKS

DOWN ONE SLOPE, UP THE OTHER
The Olhain forest is an amazing oasis of greenery between an urban valley and an agricultural plain. You are sure to enjoy its ancient beeches and the birds of prey hovering over the grass.

NATURE in the most of the mines
A nature park has been made from an old mining area, and it is astonishing to see how nature has claimed it back!

THE ROQUELAURE WOODS
A short stroll across the sandy mounds takes you through the beeches, oaks and chestnuts of the Roquelaure forest. Listen to the birdsong along the Motte Beudron path in the spring; watch the butterfly ballet in the summer; pick mushrooms in the autumn; and follow the deer tracks in the winter. The view over the Carence valley is superb.

on the lac bleu path
The Pas-de-Calais council has turned the site of an old chalk quarry into the Lac Bleu, and it is now open to the public. The new pathways lead to an area that has been recolonised by the flora and fauna of the Scarpe valley and its marshes. Enjoy “the blue and the green” of this walk…
