For its first exhibition in 2010, the International City of Lace and Fashion in Calais is
opening its doors to young creators from the organisation «Mode et arts du future»,
inviting them to fill the 500m2 of temporary exhibition space with their installation «Aux
marins célestes».

Under the leadership of the designer and set-designer Cédric Guerlus, «Aux marins
célestes», an outstanding cross-disciplinary exhibition, showcases 16 men’s outfits,
created by Françoise André, knitted metal jewellery by Véronique Rémy, photographs
by Christophe Bonamis and 3D videos and sound recordings by Thibaud Roy and
Timothé Zéphir.

This exhibition is an invitation to immerse yourself into a unique heavenly and marine
universe, sensory, three-dimensional, giving pride of place to tactile, auditory and visual
elements.
It is an awakening of the senses, on the edges of dreams and the escapism of makebelieve,
where the ocean meets the sky, whose purpose is to provide us with the key to the progressive discovery of the creative process, from ethnological heritage to contemporary creation, through the fineness and fragility of lace and crystal. It is a link between tradition, history and the art of today which is materialised in a subtle alliance of masculine decorative pieces, chokers and other items from
ethnographic collections from Oceania from museums in Boulogne-sur-Mer and Dunkerque and of contemporary men’s clothing. A sort of cosmic plunge into the softness of the ocean.

· Fashion show/performance from the men’s collection «Marins célestes» by
Françoise André : February 6th, at 3.30pm and 5.00pm.
· Show by the Polynesian dancing and singing group Makopacifica : February 6th,
at 4.00pm and 5.30pm.
· Exhibition «Aux marins célestes» : from February 7th to April 16th.
· Preview : February 11th, at 6.00pm.
· Conference «Aux marins célestes», behind the scenes of a collection. Meeting
with Françoise André and associated creators: March 4th, at 6.30pm.
· Creative workshop «La marinière décalée» by Françoise André: March 20th from
09.30am to 12.30pm and from 2.00pm to 5.30pm.
