THE
SOUTH ARTOIS AREA, FROM BAPAUME TO ARRAS…
From the wooded hills, the sources of the
Authie to the typical villages owing one of
the richest histories from the Spanish domination
until the 14/18 War, the south Artois will
fill you with wonder. The main towns are Bapaume,
capital of the chicory, and Arras, capital
of the Pas-de-Calais department. The latter
owns an architectural estate composed of two
squares of cobblestones, surrounded by typical
Flemish houses made of bricks and stones which
you can admire from the belfry of 75m (about
245 feet) high. Not far from the town, Lorette
and Vimy are the remains of the two last Wars
you may not miss…and in the leisure centre
of Saint-Laurent Blangy you will may do rafting
and other white-water sports. |
